Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) impacts large numbers of our society. The stomach bloating, pain, constipation and/or diarrhea create fear and uncertainty about “having an accident” and often limit the traveling of the afflicted person who seek to be as close to toilets as possible. While the cause of irritable bowel syndrome is uncertain, it is certain that anxiety from whatever the source makes the problem worse. The success of medications and diet seem to vary but be rather limited as has been general therapy. However, a specific hypnosis protocol seems to hold promise in treating irritable bowel syndrome. The 8 session program over a 16 week period seems to be successful in 80% of the cases according to some studies.
I am pleased to be an approved provider of this specific hypnosis protocol for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. Your first session will be an evaluation to clarify your condition, review your history and diagnosis and go over the treatment protocol for irritable bowel syndrome with you. You will complete a few self assessment forms, have the process of hypnosis explained to you will have the opportunity to ask questions so you can be comfortable with the process.
You will be asked to bring in a tape or digital recorder to record each of the seven treatment sessions so that you can practice listening to the session between appointments. Appointments for the hypnotic treatment of irritable bowel syndrome are made at two week intervals. Most clients start noticing changes by the fourth to fifth session.
For sessions 3-7, we will review your progress from the previous week and present a different set of suggestions which build on the previous sessions work.
Hypnosis consists of getting into a relaxed state and focusing your attention to listening to the words and images presented to you.
